This thesis examines the use of prefixes and suffixes in analyzing short
stories. Suffix's are affixes or connecting words in a word whose position is
behind or ends with the word. While prefixes are affixes that are placed at the
beginning of a base word. Simply put, prefixes are also called prefixes.
This study aims to describe how the use of prefixes and suffixes in the short
story of Onion and. in analyzing short stories based on the accuracy of using
prefixes and suffixes based on the prefix im and the suffix ing.
The type of this research is descriptive qualitative research. The source of
data used in this study is a short story text entitled onion and garlic. The sampling
technique in this study was purposive sampling technique. From the results of the
research, this research can increase the reader's knowledge about the role of
morphology, especially about prefixes and derivational suffixes. It can also be one
of the references for readers when they make a study of derived prefixes and
prefixes, There are derivatives that change classes and maintenance of derived
classes. Derivations that maintain class are divided into nouns, verb patterns and
adjectives. And the derivation that changes the class is divided into. noun
derivation, verb derivation, adjective derivation, and adverb derivation. The most
dominant use of morphological processes in prefixes and suffixes in derivational
ing and ed suffixes is found in a short story entitled onion and garlic.
The researcher found the types of derivational prefixes and suffixes. In the
onion and garlic short story There are 93 safixes “ed, ing, age, ed, ful, ly, ly, ly,
