We stand on the title that we raise in this research, which is critical
discourse analysis in a news discourse entitled Digging deeper with data: Child
labor and learning. The analysis in this research is based on the CDA theory
proposed by Thomas N. Huckin. Thus, CDA is used to answer or prove the issues
related to language, power, and ideology in the news discourse.
The research method in this research is descriptive qualitative to get the
answers as clearly as possible. In practice, this research was carried out through
three stages, analyzing the text at the whole-text-level, analyzing the text at the
sentence level and word level, and analyzing the text in contextual interpretation
thereby, at this stage, the analysis was carried out critically by focusing on the
social context of a text to bring the image to a close, not only on the real text and
communicative context.
The results show that CDA has been able to answer the existence of
language, power, and ideology in the news discourse. Along with the finding of
the use of the language of the article, the researcher also found power and
ideology that were visible stand-out points.
