Literary work is an expression of its own for a writer. Literary works are
divided into several parts, one of which is old literature. Old literature is a literary
work whose author is not known, it continues to evolve with the times to this day
and is passed down from generation to generation by word of mouth, especially
oral literature. This research will discuss about oral literature, namely old poems
that have been transformed into gending and mantras for the people of the village
of Olehsari. The gending is the Seblang Olehsari’s gending.

In this study, we will review and look for the meaning of the Seblang
gending with a research focus, how the indirectness of the expression in the
Seblang Olehsari verses and the meaning contained in the Seblang Olehsari verses
based on heuristic and hermeneutic reading. In this study, using the theory of
literary analysis of Riffatere's Semiotics, namely: (1) Indirect expression (2)
Heuristic and hermeneutic reading. This research uses descriptive qualitative
method. Data collection techniques used in this study were observation,
documentation, and note-taking. This study uses the technique of data validity
triangulation method. The data and sources of data from this research are in the
form of documents owned by the traditional head in the form of a book containing
notes on the Seblang Olehsari gending from Hasnan Singodimajan and a
dissertation by Paul Arthur Wolbers which discusses and translates the Seblang
gending through his research.
In this study, the results in the form of figure of speech are as follows: 4
simile figure of speech, 2 metaphorical figure of speech, 9 personification figure of
speech, 1 metonymy figure of speech, 2 synecdoche figure of speech, 15
allegorical figure of speech, 4 ambiguity, 2 paradox, 3 nonsense, and the meaning
in in the music of Seblang Olehsari and the figures of speech that are in it. The
purpose of this research is to contribute to the preservation of Indonesian culture.
